How kind you have been to your skin when you were younger will definitely show when you’re in your fifties. Many factors affect the state of your skin, like lifestyle, heredity, stress, gravity, and obesity. But that doesn’t mean that you will forego skincare and just let nature take over. Here are ten easy beauty rituals that you can do on a regular basis to have that great-looking skin even over 50.
1) Stay away from the sun!
A day out in the sun to sunbathe may sound lovely. But if you’re over 50, you should not expose yourself to the sun too much, because that’s the easiest way for skin to age and get damaged. Avoid the sun between the 10am to 4pm window as much as possible, and make sure that your skin is protected.
2) Use sunscreen.
Whether it’s a rainy or a sunny day out, always wear and protect your skin with sunscreen. You don’t want any more age spots popping on your face. Not only do they make your skin look uneven, they can also lead to skin cancer. Prevent skin damage and apply SPF to your face and skin religiously.
3) Enjoy baths.
Keep that skin hydrated and pampered. A good soak can renew and relax your tired skin. Add in nutrients to your bathwater so your skin can soak them up and keep looking fresh and moisturized. You can use milk and honey to soften, moisturize, and beautify skin. You can also add a few drops of essential oils and take an Epsom salt bath. This can really relax and soothe tired muscles, as well as regenerate your skin cells.
4) Get regular facials.
It’s a good workout for the skin, so try to have one even once a month. It eliminates dirt and toxins, which help with your skin’s collagen production. It also gives your skin a much-needed boost that improves blood circulation, giving you that healthy and rosy glow.
5) Go easy on the foundation.
Let your skin breathe. Applying too much foundation makes your face look unnaturally light or dark, and heavy. But with just the right amount, and with just the perfect shade, it can hide imperfections and highlight your face’s natural beauty.
6) Wear soft and warm colors.
You don’t really need to wear a ton of makeup. But when choosing makeup colors, try to avoid ones that are too dark for your complexion, because they will look too severe on your face. Always go for age-appropriate makeup. We recommend wearing light and warm colors to give your skin that natural and healthy gleam.
Scrub away those dead skin cells that make your skin look dull and dry. When you exfoliate regularly, you’re unclogging your pores and hydrating your skin as well. Never scrub too hard, though. Because as you age, the skin gets more and more sensitive. Always use a gentle brush to stimulate the skin.
8) Use natural products on your face.
Choose natural and gentle products for your face and body. Your skin does not need all those harmful chemicals and processed ingredients clogging up your pores and doing more damage than good. This is the best time to go natural!
9) Give anti-aging creams a shot.
They are not as drastic as Botox or facelifts, and they can help slow the process of aging. Just be discerning of the products that you put on your face. Not everything these products claim to achieve are real. Everybody will get different results. Do your own research and know what’s right and what’s best for your own skin.
10) Smile more often.
A simple smile can make you more attractive in just seconds. A smile can make you decades younger without having to do anything fancy to your face. Keep that smile often and it can be the only beauty enhancer you will ever need!
