A great relationship with your grandkids can do wonders for your life. They can make you feel happy just by their mere presence, and they can really make you feel young all over again. These days, it’s so easy to just hand them a gadget and let them play with it all day long. You can give them a different experience, though. You can do these enjoyable and creative bonding activities with them and really have fun.
1) Nature Walk
Getting a little exercise and checking out the beautiful sights around your neighborhood with the little ones is always a great idea. You can take them to your favorite spots, as well as to ones you will know they will enjoy. Like the park, or the sea, or the woods. Hit two birds with one stone by keeping it fun and educational!
2) Arts and Crafts
Doing something creative and making something beautiful out of scratch will surely get the kids excited. Bring out your craft tools and start cutting, drawing, painting, coloring, or sewing. Keep those little hands busy and you will not notice the time fly by.
3) Cooking and Baking
Have some fun with the little ones in the kitchen and whip up something delicious together. Teach the kids to bake a batch of brownies, or their favorite chocolate chip cookies. Let them measure and scoop. Don’t worry about the mess too much. You can always ask them for help with the clean-up.
Storytelling is always fun, especially when it’s Grandma reading the story. Entertain the kids with your many voices and read them a story which you loved when you were a child. That will make story time all the more special and fun!
5) Scavenger Hunt
Let your imagination run wild and organize a scavenger hunt for your grandkids. Think of a theme that you know they will enjoy, like their favorite Disney movie, or pirates, or the carnival. Make them wear costumes while they scavenge. Play music and take a lot of photos.
6) Tea Party
When your granddaughter invites you to a tea party, you should say yes and have a grand time! Regale her with tales of princes and princesses, and kings and queens, in between sips of tea. Don’t forget to compliment the yummy biscuits, too.
7) Dress Up
You don’t need to wait for Halloween just to dress up. You can make it something the kids will look forward to whenever they come to visit. You can be kings and queens, or comic book superheroes, or eighties rock stars. Whatever strikes their fancy.
8) Board Games
Encourage your grandkids to stop playing with their phones and tablets and play the real fun stuff. Play cards. Complete jigsaw puzzles. Play favorite classic board games like Snakes and Ladders, Pictionary, Twister, and Cluedo. For more laughs, get them to play Pie Face.
9) Time Capsule
Get your grandkids to make a time capsule that they will only take out on their first day of high school, or before they head off to college. This can give you a glimpse of what they cherish during this period of their lives. It will be a fun and creative exercise that they will remember for a long time.
10) Movie Marathon
You can always sit back, put your feet up, have a bowl of popcorn, and watch a great movie together. Choose to watch something that all of you will enjoy. Take turns picking a movie, and then share what you thought of it when the movie’s over. This is a fun way to get everyone talking.
